By default, Dealerware only charges a customer's payment on finished contracts.
The only time a pre-authorization occurs is if your dealership charges a vehicle daily rate.
Vehicle Daily Rate Pre-Authorization:
When charging a vehicle daily rate, Dealerware will preauthorize the payment method on file for the estimated amount depending on the scheduled pickup and dropoff times. For example:
Vehicle Daily Rate: $50
Scheduled Pickup: 4/10/2021 12:00 PM
Scheduled Return: 4/12/2021 12:00 PM
Authorization Amount: $100*
If you extend the scheduled return date on a started contract, this will pre-authorize the payment method again for $50* per each day extended.
To see pre-authorized amounts:
- Search and select the relevant contract
- Select Billing
Pre-authorized amounts will be displayed on the Customer Payment History.
When the customer is charged, the pre-authorized amount displayed will change to the charged amount.
If the customer's payment method has pre-authorization time limits, the pre-authorization may expire. Expired pre-authorizations will be displayed on the Customer Payment History. Dealerships may still charge the customer for expired pre-authorized amounts.
*The total amount being authorized may be higher depending on your tax settings in Cost Recovery settings.
